I shopped for hours looking for the right mount. I finally settled on this mount because it looked simple to mount and use, has few parts and looked very solid. I like the design that allows tilting movement without having to reach behind the tv and loosen then tighten wingnuts. This design allows you to tilt the tv, very easily. The design works very well and that’s why I ultimately decided to keep this.
The problem arose when the box arrived, I opened it up to examine the parts and the first thing I noticed was a small rivet head floating loose in one of the parts bags. It turns out the pins that hold the brackets, that connect to the tv, are held together with snap on rivet heads. This is the main piece that keep the tv from crashing off your wall and on to the floor and it is held in place by $.10 rivets. On one of the brackets, the rivets were not fastened properly to one of the pins. This is such a poor design (as well as awful quality control at the factory). They could have spent an extra $.25 and used c-clips or cotter pins. Instead Ergotron opted to save a few pennies on what is really the main part holding the tv to the wall.
I had my electrician coming that day, so thought it would be easier to fix then repack, return and cancel the electrician. I ran to my local hardware store and bought a pin and c-clip set for about $.35 that solved this problem and is stronger than the original pin/rivet from Ergotron. Actually I ran to 3 stores, bought about $20 worth of assorted stuff, not knowing what would work, but the $.35 part did the trick.
This is a really nice mount, due to its simple to use design, but I would recommend you DO NOT buy this, until this pin/rivet design is changed. I contacted Ergotron about this problem and their answer was to send me a bag of the same worthless snap on rivets that didn’t even hold on in shipping, let alone actual use!!! What a bunch of knuckleheads!
