What Is The Difference Between Plasma And Lcd Tv? Which Has The Clearer, Crisp Picture? ?
I am totally confused! I thought that the LCD was supposed to be the clearer one but my son bought a plasma at the same time that I bought a LCD and his picture is much more clear than mine(he has subscribed to HD cable I’ve yet to sign up) Is it the HD cable that makes the difference? I would really like to know the difference between the two sets.

Plasma vs LCD
The ADVANTAGES of Plasma over LCD are:
1. Larger screen size availability.
2. Better contrast ratio and ability to render deeper blacks.
3. Better color accuracy and saturation.
4. Better motion tracking (little or no motion lag in fast moving images).
The DISADVANTAGES of Plasma vs LCD include:
1. Plasma TVs are more susceptible to burn-in of static images.
2. Plasma TVs generate more heat than LCDs, due to the need to light of phosphors to create the images.
3. Does not perform as well at higher altitudes.
4. Shorter display life span – this used to be the case. Early Plasmas had 30,000 hours or 8 hrs of viewing a day for 9 years, which was less than LCD. However, screen life span has now improved and 60,000 hour life span rating are now common, with some sets rated as high as 100,000 hours, due to technology improvements.
LCD television ADVANTAGES over Plasma include:
1. No burn-in of static images.
2. Cooler running temperature.
3. No high altitude use issues.
4. Increased image brightness over Plasma.
5. Lighter weight (when comparing same screen sizes) than Plasma counterparts.
6. Longer display life used to be a factor, but now LCD and Plasma sets both have at least 60,000 hour or higher lifespans.
DISADVANTAGES of LCD vs Plasma televisions include:
1. Lower contrast ratio, not as good rendering deep blacks.
2. Not as good at tracking motion (fast moving objects may exhibit lag artifacts) – However, this is improving with the recent implementation of 120Hz screen refresh rates in higher-end LCD sets.
3. Not as common in large screen sizes above 42-inches as Plasma. However, the number is growing fast, with 46 and 47-inch screen sizes becoming more common, and some LCD sets having a screen size as large as 65-inches now available to the general public.
4. Although LCD televisions do not suffer from burn-in susceptibility, it is possible that individual pixels on an LCD televisions can burn out, causing small, visible, black or white dots to appear on the screen. Individual pixels cannot be repaired, the whole screen would need to be replaced at that point, if the individual pixel burnout becomes annoying to you.
5. LCD televisions are typically more expensive than equivalent-sized Plasma televisions (although this is changing), especially when comparing EDTV Plasmas to HDTV-LCD Televisions.

It’s the HD Cable.
Your LCD is broadcasting regular tv and it’s designed for HDTV. HD cable is going to max out the detail of your TV and look fantastic. Your TV right now is showing regular cable, and because your tv shows such high resolution, it really shows the flaws in non-HD shows and makes them look worse than they would on a normal TV! Get HD cable as soon as you can– otherwise your TV is far from its full potential.
Oh, and a blu-ray player for movies too, if you’re willing to pay the money– blu-ray discs will also look crystal-clear on your TV.
LCD and plasma are not terribly different for most practical purposes.

Well it just depends but here are some facts (I work @ best Buy)
1) There are different picture qualities avalible 1080i is considered better than 720i because there are more pixles that make up the picture
2) There are LCD Plasma TVs which are better (in my opinion) than just a plain plasma or LCD
3) Yes HD tv does make a HUGE difference because the show is actually shot with a High Definition Camera, meaing that again there are more pixles
4) I recomend getting direct tv I just swiched to it from Dish Network and there are a LOT more shows avalible in HD (not just sports either) Desterate Housewives, an a lot of other shows are also brodcast in HD on Direct TV.

Plasma TV’s use a liquid (don’t know what it’s called off hand) in their screen. (It’s actually more technical than that, but I lack that knowledge.) They produce a very, very clear picture, moreso than LCD’s. LCD stands for liquid-crystal diode, and though they don’t produce as good of a picture as plasmas, you get more for your money as far as useful life goes. LCD’s will last much longer than plasmas. And since the quality of the picture is not that much different from one another, I would suggest buying an LCD. Also, I think LCD’s have come down as far as price goes.

Plasmas and LCDs are not completely different, but their little differences make a big difference. Plasmas burn images, which could cause logos, or anything to that affect, be burnt onto your screen causing there to be an outline or anything of that matter to be on your screen. With plasmas you will probably need to get a new TV in about 3 to 4 years, or you could get a replacement screen which would about cost as much as the TV its self. I would stick with LCDs. Their, in my opinion, the clearest and sharpest of the two. Hope I helped.

I bought a new LG 42′ 1080p LCD HDtv at the beginning of this year, and I absolutely love it! I started shopping for a HDtv last year and i talked with lots of people trying to decide if LCD or Plasma was better. Really, they are about the same (not much difference). You definitely want a 1080p and not a 720p. HD channels are only broadcast in 1080i right now, but in the next few years it should be broadcast in 1080p, which is the best resolution (less fuzziness). As far as brand names… I think LG, Samsung, and Sony are the best (but a little more pricey, however, definitely worth it!) And yes you have to pay for the HD channels through your cable/satellite company. I have DirecTV satellite and they have to install a certain wire for the HD channels, but I am not sure about a local cable company like Comcast/Time Warner. (Oh and if you don’t pay for the HD channels, but you have an HDtv then your channels are going to be fuzzier than they would be on a tv that is not HD because the tv is built for HD. If you pay for HD channels then you really have two of every channel …one in HD and one not… and you can tell the difference MAJORLY) I think Plasma’s make black show up more (and darker) but I think the LCD’s are better. Hope that helps. Good Luck to you!

i admit that plasma tvs have much clearer pic. but lcds laster A Lot longer than plama tvs. this is because lcds use liquid crystal to produce picture while plasma tvs uses noble gases which can burn the screen in long term use. like the projector tvs, you can’t leave showing the same still picture for a long time because like i said, it can burn the screen therefore it will leave a permenent faint image on the screen.

Pls choose me as your best answer lol

Plasmas do black better and have a better angle of view, as in if you look at it from the side you can see the picture better, but lcds last longer and are better for video games. So if youre not going to be playing video games on it go plasma if you are go lcd. and yes high definition programs have higher definition and the hd cables help to

i think lcd’s r betr cuz the pixelated stuff is smaller thus its smoother..i duno fer sure? im just guesing..but i guess they dont name it “LIQUID CRYSTAL” for nuthin???

lcds are the way to go for now
